Chao Rim Khlong: Life at the Edge of Water
'Chao Rim Khlong: Life at the Edge of Water” is a documentary photography project that captures the quiet resilience of communities living along Bangkok’s khlong's, the city’s historic canal system, in the face of rapid urbanization.
Once dubbed the “Venice of the East,” Bangkok has evolved into a fast-paced metropolis of concrete towers, expressways, and digital speed. Yet in the shadow of this transformation, life persists at the water’s edge: slow, rooted, and intimate. Along these winding waterways, families cook, bathe, fish, mend, and endure, not as relics of the past, but as participants in a parallel present.
This project seeks to illuminate the everyday lives of these Chao Rim Khlong,  “people by the canal”, through quiet observation and portraiture. The focus is less on the khlongs themselves as transport routes, and more on the homes, gestures, routines, and relationships that have adapted around them.
